Bodies on the Beach was one of fourteen dance works specially commissioned for The Big Dance Weekend 2014 – a series of exceptional dance performances and events in unexpected places across England.

The Yorkshire Commission took place on the beach at Bridlington on Saturday 12 July 2014, and involved a community cast from across Yorkshire. Participants came from East Riding County Youth Dance Company, Wilberforce College (Hull), North Yorkshire Dance (Harrogate), Street Beat Elite / elements and community group with young dancers from across North & North East Lincolnshire and South Yorkshire and individual dancers from Leeds, York, Pool in Wharfedale and Thirsk.

Bodies on the Beach was choreographed by Susanne Thomas and supported by a team of artists comprising Sam Lawrence, Julius Ebreo and Kim Oakley who worked with the cast to create the piece over six weeks.
